The Temple of Heaven

For those of you not familiar with the Temple of Heaven, it is a Chinese imperial sacrificial altar located in the southeastern part of central Beijing, which literally means Altar of Heaven in both simplified and traditional Chinese. It consists of a complex of religious buildings that were used for annual ceremonies of prayer by the emperors of both the Ming and Qing Dynasties from 1368 to 1911 (over a period of no less than 540+ years). They prayed during such ceremonies to Heaven for good harvest.

Despite the above and the fact that Chinese heaven worship predates Taoism (also called Daoism), especially by the ruling monarchy of the day, some rightly or wrongly regard the Temple of Heaven as a Taoist Temple.

Caisson Ceiling

A Caisson or spider web ceiling is an architectural central piece of East Asian origin typically found in the ceilings of palaces and temples such as the Temple of Heaven.

3D Effect

The Cook Islands 2015 Temple of Heaven silver coin brings the Temple of Heaven stunningly to life through a three dimensional (3D) effect. This 3D effect is achieved by multiple layers of high/low relief that goes up to 5 mm deep.  This is thanks to a brand new 4-layer minting technique.
