Mickey Mouse has had many adversaries over the years, but maybe none quite as strange as the ones he encounters in Disney’s The Little Whirlwind. In this cartoon Mickey is enticed by the aroma of a cake Minnie Mouse is baking. Promised a slice if he cleans her yard, Mickey starts raking up leaves, but is frustrated by the arrival of a baby whirlwind. He eventually chases it away but Mama Whirlwind, unamused by Mickey tormenting her offspring, arrives and pursues Mickey — destroying the yard and the countryside in the process. Mama Whirlwind and her offspring are most entertaining adversaries. It is a credit to the animators that they managed to give two tornadoes genuine personalities, but somehow they did!

About the Mongol Warriors:

Ghengis Khan’s Mongol army was the dominant military force of the 13th century. Never very large, it was still effective and terrifying – fake withdrawals, surprise attacks, hostage-taking, psychological warfare and human shields were classic Mongol moves. Skilled horsemen and masters of the composite bow, and curved sabers, they could fire up to six arrows a minute and utilized several arrow and arrowhead designs. Light and heavy armor gave protection against attack, while allowing the flexibility required to handle their bows.

About the Battle of Yorktown:

In the fall of 1781, General George Washington’s forces, supported by the French army and navy, besieged General Lord Charles Cornwallis’ veteran British army – dug in at Yorktown, Virginia. The Battle of Yorktown proved to be the last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War.

After bombardment, both day and night, from cannon and artillery, the British situation began to deteriorate rapidly and Cornwallis surrendered on 17 October.

Replacing Cornwallis’ captured army was a questionable proposition for the British. With support for the war eroded, peace negotiations began the following year. The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783 and formally brought an end to the Revolutionary War and established the United States as a free and independent country.

In 1789 George Washington became the first President of the United States.

The mighty Chewbacca communicates in a series of growls, grunts and fierce roars, and Han is one of few who understands the Wookiee’s native language. A noble sidekick, Chewie often serves as Han’s conscience and even helps persuade him to return and fight in the Battle of Yavin, where the duo clear the way for Luke Skywalker to destroy the Empire’s dreaded Death Star. Now a hero of the Rebel Alliance, Chewbacca joins the band of Rebels in their continued fight. At the Battle of Endor, he serves on the strike force that disables the second Death Star’s shield generator and allows Rebel forces to finally defeat the Empire’s massive fleet.
