2016 France 5 oz. Silver Statue of Liberty 130th Anniversary Commemorative Medal NGC MS70

Online for the first time at MCM, this beautiful commemorative is bursting with historic symbolism, tradition, and heart as it revives a past medal that was originally struck 120 years ago in 1896.

Nearly an exact restrike of the 1896 medal that was created to honor the 10th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, this newly released Silver Statue of Liberty Medal has resurfaced to celebrate 120 more years of both the Statue of Liberty and the Franco-American Union. Minted by the Monnaie de Paris, each medal was struck using .950 fine silver and was designated to be in MS69 or MS70 condition by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. Additionally, each graded medal is accompanied by an official Certificate of Authenticity.

An outstanding gift from the people of France, the Statue of Liberty materialized the alliance between France and the U.S. during the American Revolution. Because of this significant historical gift, it was only appropriate that both the original Liberty Medal and this stunning commemorative piece were struck by the talented engravers at the Paris Mint. Established in the year 864, the Mint specializes in creating top-quality releases that many times include important, historical elements.

In 1896, numismatics honored the Franco-American Union by showcasing the Statue of Liberty. Continue this historical celebration by adding the newly-minted 5 oz. Statue of Liberty Medal Silver Proof to your collection today.

2016 China 1 oz. Proof Silver Panda – Moon Festival Medal GEM Proof (Original Mint Capsule)

The Moon Festival is the second biggest holiday celebration in China–ranking only behind Chinese New Year in importance and excitement. The Moon Festival is a time for families to gather together, often dining outdoors under the full moon, as they celebrate another year of plenty, blessings, and the love and support of family and friends. Of course, the moon itself has a timeless and universal magic that needs no explanation or translation.

A Spectacular Opportunity

China has issued precious metal Panda coins and proofs for over thirty years. They are among the most popular gold and silver issues in the world. So it may surprise you to learn that–until recently–China had never specifically honored the Moon Festival as part of the China Gold & Silver Panda series. That all changed late last year when a new Moon Festival Panda™ series was launched by the China Mint with a single massive proof: the 2015 Moon Festival Panda Silver Kilo. It quickly became one of the most popular and fastest-selling Panda proofs in history.

But today, the China Mint has made an even more exciting announcement…

JUST RELEASED: 2016 Moon Pandas

After such an overwhelming response from collectors to the debut of the Moon Festival Panda series last year, China made a bold and dramatic decision for 2016. They decided to follow up the single massive 2015 silver kilo with four different 2016 Gold and Silver Moon Festival Panda Proofs–giving eager collectors a much wider range of sizes, metals, and price points to choose from. Be sure to claim your coins today and enjoy MCM’s always free domestic shipping with no minimum.

Unlike the gold coin, each of these medals boast a fine proof finish. A modern depiction of Liberty is found on its obverse, holding a torch in her right hand and a U.S. Flag in her left. The reverse design shows an eagle in flight, holding an olive branch in its talons. Both of these classic American symbols are designed in sharp detail and look especially incredible with the proof finish! To the collectors who were unable to purchase the High Relief Gold Liberty coin earlier this year due to budget constraints, the Silver Liberty Medal provides a more affordable opportunity to add this design to their collection.

Congressional Gold Medal Presented to the Foot Soldiers of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights Marches

WASHINGTON – The Congressional Gold Medal was presented collectively today to the voting rights marchers–known as foot soldiers–who participated in the Selma to Montgomery, Ala., voting rights marches of 1965. The ceremony took place in Emancipation Hall of the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.

March 7, 2015, marked the 50th anniversary of the peaceful marches by civil rights demonstrators from all racial and economic backgrounds to protest the denial of voting rights to African-Americans. The first march, which left the Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in an attempt to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge, was unsuccessful. The day became known as BloodySunday because of the brutal resistance the protestors encountered. The second attempt to cross the bridge, known as Turnaround Tuesday, was halted because of concern for the protestors’ safety. Undeterred, the protestors attempted a third march from Selma to Montgomery which was successful, becoming a climactic event in the civil rights movement.

The extraordinary bravery and sacrifice of these men and women brought national attention to the struggle for equal voting rights and served as the catalyst for Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law on Aug. 6, 1965.

Designed and struck by the United States Mint, the medal’s obverse (heads) depicts foot soldiers crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge on their 54-mile journey from Selma to Montgomery. Inscriptions are “SELMA TO MONTGOMERY MARCHES 1965” and “FOOT SOLDIERS FOR JUSTICE.”

The obverse was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) artist Donna Weaver and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill.

The medal’s reverse (tails) design commemorates the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The design features a hand, a voting ballot box, the quote “EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN MUST HAVE AN EQUAL RIGHT TO VOTE” from President Lyndon B. Johnson’s voting rights speech to Congress, “VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1965,” and “ACT OF CONGRESS 2015.”

The reverse was also designed by Weaver and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso.

Public Law 114-5, which awards the Congressional Gold Medal to the Foot Soldiers who participated in Bloody Sunday, Turnaround Tuesday, or the final Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March in March of 1965, also authorizes the bureau to strike and sell bronze reproductions of the medal. The three-inch medal (product code 15MN), priced at $39.95, and the 1.5-inch medal (product code 15MP), priced at $6.95, will be available for purchase beginning today after 3 p.m. Eastern Time via the bureau’s online catalog at https://catalog.usmint.gov/  and at1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may call1-888-321-MINT FREE (6468).
